If you drink or serve beer, you’ll want to have the right beer glasses. You can drink beer out of anything, really, but there’s nothing’s quite like a cold beer from the right beer glass.
Types of Beer Glasses
There are a few different types of common beer glasses. The Pilsner glass is an easily recognized beer glass shape. It’s tall, with a base that flares out toward the top. These don’t hold as much liquid as the common pint glass.
A pint glass holds about 16 ounces and sometimes has a logo or a beer brand name on its side. This size is typical in the United States, while the pint glass in the U.K. usually holds about 20 ounces. There are several different variations of pint glasses. The conical pint glass only gets slightly larger as you look up from the base. The tulip pint glass is a really common design, with the top blooming out to a slightly larger circumference than the bottom, in a very subtle tulip-like shape.
Nonic pint glasses have a slight band running around them about a third of the way down from the top where the glass bulges out a little. Nucleated pint beer glasses have etchings on the bottom of the glass, which often advertise a beer brand, but actually have a functional purpose. The tiny pits that make the etchings help the beer maintain its head for more than just a few minutes. The beer mug, with its short, stocky shape and rounded corners on the handle is also easy recognizable. It’s modeled after the much larger German beer stein.
Beer Glasses as Gifts
Beer glasses make a great gift. Drinking beer from a bottle, can or even a plain glass tumbler is fine, but if you can have it from a specially designed glass or even engraved beer glasses, it can be a better experience. Engraved glasses, mugs and steins are great as gifts for anyone who enjoys beer or collectible glassware.
