Wine Glasses
Shop for red wine glasses and white wine glasses
To many people, wine glasses are just delicate pieces of glass stemware that are interchangeable. But there are very distinct differences in different types of wine glasses. While you can certainly use the different types of wine glasses to drink almost anything, having the right glass can make drinking wine a better experience.
Difference in Wine Glasses
If you want to buy wine glasses, you should either buy glasses for the specific type of wine you’re purchasing or buy both red wine and white wine glasses, so you can enjoy both kinds properly. There are differences between the two that many people aren’t aware of.
White is best when served chilled, so the bowl of a white wine glass is narrower with a smaller opening. This small opening gives the wine less exposed surface area, so it won’t lose its chill as quickly, staying colder for longer. The narrower glass helps this, too. Red wine glasses are bigger around, a little shorter and have a larger opening on top.
You can use either type of glass stemware for either wine, and you can drink other beverages like water, juice or even soda from them if you enjoy the feel of the glass in your hand. But using the correct glass for the right type of wine gives you a more authentic wine experience. For those new to wine, you can purchase wine kits that include the wine and the correct glasses to get you started. You can even try to find some older-style goblets for a more medieval feel, if that’s what you like.
Wine Tasting
Wine tasting kits often come with more than just wine glasses and wine. They often have tips about how to slosh the wine in the glass, smell it, and grade it based on smell and taste. Wine tasting kits also often come with information about how to judge the quality of a wine, its ingredients and other things wine tasters take into consideration.
You don’t have to buy kits, however. You can find quality glass stemware that you will love and enjoy using at a variety of stores online, as well as in regular brick-and-mortar stores.
